Enhance "Load Default Controllers" function or better yet support a template...
-
This post was made as an issue
So far I love almost everything about LightShow Pro; however the process for adding or changing controllers, changing channel configuration, Display Preview Layout, Layers and adding transitions is too difficult and tedious in LSP. When you change one or more of these things and then have to roll the changes through 20 or 30 existing sequences it is too difficult and time consuming. This should be an easy task.
My display is very dynamic, it changes every year. There has not been a single year, in the six years I have done this that I have not added lights and controllers to my show or changed channel configurations. I think this is true of most users.
I should be able to make these kinds of changes once in one sequence or template and then be able to import the changes/additions into all of my other sequences or just have the sequences automatically pull the updates, when they load, from the updated template.
I would propose that the "Load Default Controllers" function be enhanced to provide an option which would allow for the import of controllers (on the assigned layers and channel configuration), Display Preview Configuration, and Transitions from another sequence or template without deleting the sequence data from the sequence into which the info is being imported as it currently does.
Better yet, it would be nice if all of this system configuration type of information was stored in a template which was referenced by sequences which use it, rather than in the sequence itself. Then when you modify the template, all sequences which reference it would automatically be updated because they pull this information from the template instead of storing it with each individual sequence.
This issue negatively effects every user of LSP that has a dynamic display, If I make even a simple change such as changing a channel name of one channel on one controller, I currently have to go through every sequence and change the channel name. This becomes even more tedious when a user makes complex changes such as adding one or more controllers, reassigns and rearranges channels on existing controllers, changes display preview layout, adds layers and transitions, etc. All of these changes have to be performed on every sequence in your show. This is way too time consuming and tedious!
