Default D-light converted to DMX? What Controller Type in LSP 2.0

Just wondering. I am converting my D-light Controllers to DMX this year and was curious?
What Contoller type to you use to set up the D-light Controller converted to DMX in your LSP setup?
Do you use the D-light controller, but change the protocol?
    Do you create a controller?

    Just curious.

    Mike.

The simple way to do it is as you thought. From the LOR based list select a D-Light ACx16 for example then in the Controller Settings select the Controller Protocol such as 'Enttec DMX Pro (DMX USBPRO or Lynx) and now it is 'D-Light ACx16' DMX protocol based controller.

You could save this back as a User defined controller for future use.

Mabey in the future an entry could be added such as 'Other DMX controllers'.

When I created my DMX container for D-Light controllers, I used a LYNX express as the template, renamed it to D-Light DMXAC16 and then did the Save controller as that name. I now have a container for all my Dlight controllers that are DMX control

You are correct as well. DMX is DMX the protocol is non hardware specific. That is why it is getting so popular in the DIY community as it has been in the professional lighting world.

The only thing to watch as you setup your Whatever DMX controller is that you do select the proper dongle device so you get the proper driver.

    Hope all this helps.

Like MrChristmas2000 said I took my ACx8s and changed the protocol to DMX now if you are using a LYNX, Entec Pro or E1.31 select the Entec DMX Pro protocol. If you are using a Entec Open dongle or using the D-Light v3 converter select Entec Open. If would recommend using either a Lynx dongle or Entec Pro dongle as they are much better at sending out DMX. Make sure your set your beginning DMX address for each controller.

In the case of the best output for DMX, having used all of the above, I have found that the DR4 from J1sys seems to work th best. We found a way to switch the output to pins 4 and 5 (thanks JonB256) and feed that directly to all of my D-Light DMX controllers without the need for a "pin swither cable". I ran many test sequences in that configuration and found that the best result was this method. Like everything in life everyones experience will vary. If you are looking to control multiple universes perhaps the DR4 is the best choice. If you only have a low device count perhaps 1 universe or less then one of the other choices is best.
