LSP Trial: 30 days just isn't long enough for a thorough evaluation
Hi,
I've been checking out the trials for LSP since version 1.6. My display up until now has been made up of lots of solid colour LED strings in "colour changing" configuration (closest well known display would be Holdman Christmas I guess!). This year I plan to introduce some 3-channel (dumb) RGB items and the year after start with limited intelligent RGB (single continous line <20m).
The trouble I've found with LSP, is that because it is so very different to how LOR S2/S3 and Vixen 2 work (LOR and Vixen I find are very similar at the sequencing level) I'm not able to fully see what LSP can and can't do for me in the 30 day time frame*. LSP is up against the LOR software which (while lacking in intelligent RGB tools) offers a time unlimited but no outputting demo and also Vixen which costs nothing so also effectively offers a time unlimited "demo". I'm not one to spend money on something I'm not sure I'll use.
With the trial only offering 16 channels of output, its not like someone is getting a free product from a longer trial anyway! Particularly as exporting was locked down in trial mode in an earlier LSP v1 build. You could even disable the 16 channel output after the current trial period but still allow the use of the sequencer UI for further evaluation.
I can see there's some potential with LSP, I just haven't been able to realise that potential relative to my own display while restricted to the 30 day limit (I don't plan on converting to a totally rgb display ever at this point in time, just add some rgb elements). Again, I'm not after a free product, but there is definitely a need for a much longer trial period to really experience LSP before committing to buy. The discounted pricing is tempting, but as I said I don't spend money on something I'm not sure I'll use. The money stays in my pocket for now...
In short, I'd like to see:
A time unlimited trial of LSP v2, where the sequencer UI is available to be evaluated without being locked into a time restriction;
The 16 channel output of the trial can still expire after the existing time elapses - activating at first run (as now) or manually at a later date by user request (once activated it can't be paused or restarted);
Other features like the Export function can continue to be disabled in the trial completely.
I'm sure there are other decorators like myself out there who share these views. Hopefully this opinion will be taken on board .
*Forgive me if the period is not 30 days, I recall that it was the last time I trialed LSP prior to LSP v2's release. I've not wanted to start the timer clock on the LSP v2 demo yet as I'll likely not be able to do a proper evaluation by the time the trial expires once again.
i totaly agree there is so much to look at in the program that it is to short a trial to really see if it will do what you want it to do and for the price you end up paying you want to make sure it is what you want before purchasing the software so a longer trila period would be a good thing i think
I have just joined after hearing a LOT about LSP, I too downloaded the last version and ran out of time before i could properly evaluate it, I was in the short time however impressed by some of the features it has, which is why I have downloaded V2 but have not started the trial yet until I can set aside some spare time to really get some benefit from the trial.
With a few options regarding software now available and improvements being made on each and every one of them, it makes the decision harder to consider changing software in the hope that current software being used by myself is going to pick up their game, but not wanting to hold my breath on it, I am keeping my options open but not wanting to commit just yet, I really need to be able to justify purchasing another piece of software if i am going to change over.
Might I suggest you watch some of the many training videos available here to help you make the decision to change to LSP. Take a minute to think about the many folks who have paid for the product. Do you think we want the developers taking time to enhance the demo, or add features we want? Just sayin...
