Thread: Setting up controllers!

Ok, here's my set up. 4 E681's and 5 Renard24 HC's. I will run the Renards with dmx from a EthConGatway. I can see the E681's to drag them in my sequence. Since I want to run the Renards in dmx from the ECG, do I set them up as dmx controllers, or as E1.31 controllers? Hope this makes sense! Thanks for the help!!

To make your configuration work, you need t set up your controllers with the protocol that you want them to use. In your case, you will set up the controllers as DMX devices. You want them to output DMX so they need to be configured as DMX. I am not familliar then the Renard devices as far as channel counts so I will assume that it is a 24 channel device. Grab a Lynx 16 channel controler and then reconfigure it to suit your needs. Since it will output DMX it really does not matter what type here. The next thing that you need to do is select what type of protocol it will use. Since you are using it with other DMX over ethernet devices it has to use the same stuff. Set them up as DMX devices. When you set them up select which DMX channel each will start at.

When you configure the output plugin, the DR4 will be programmed for DMX universes. You will have to select DMX universes that match where you put your controllers. It could look like Univierse 1 for DMX channels 1 thru 512 with 512 channels, Universe 2 channels 513 to 1024with 512 channels, Universe 3 1025 to ...

Just remember that Renards with DMX firmware is not "true" dmx. They will waste channels so the channel numbers are dependent on the location in the stream that the controllers are physically placed. By wasting I mean that the first controller will grab the number of channel it needs and then pass only the remaining channel on to the next controller. This process will continue until all controllers are satisfied or all channel are used.

Thanks Unibits for the info! Thanks Mike for the heads up on the DMX! The only reason I was gonna use the DR4 was to keep the cables from my house to a minimum. I don't have the DR4 yet! Mike would you recommend doing this setup a different way. I planned on running one cat5 to a switch and to my first E681 from one port and to the DR4 from another. I'm a LOR convert so any and all suggestions are welcome please! Thanks for the help!
